MTN WhoDeyCall Service — Details and Activation
The MTN WhoDeyCall service is a new addition to the operator’s long list of recent releases.
As the name implies, the new feature serves the purpose of revealing the identity of a caller be it an MTN subscriber or one from another network.
Hoping to outdo a similar service from Truecaller, the MTN WhoDeyCall service would be offline-based rather than through the use of the internet. Truecaller is an internet-based app which obtains the contacts of a user registered to the service into its server. Its filtering algorithm picks out the details of the contacts obtained and subsequently displays it to other registered users. However, the WhoDeyCall service isn’t of this nature.
The MTN WhoDeyCall service in details
WhoDeyCall service from MTN is supported by all devices, as such there’s no need for an internet connection. Aside the unnecessary need for internet connectivity, a user subscribed to the service would be able to obtain the identity of callers with hidden and blocked numbers.
International phone calls would also be identified in addition to those from roaming subscribers. MTN affords to its subscribers the benefit of experiencing the service on a 7 days free trial. This is done by texting free to 5058. This trial is a one-time offer, as such, dialing the code multiple times attracts a charge of N30.
The MTN WhoDeyCall service according to the operator doesn’t access your phone contacts and neither does it allow other users to use the service to search the details associated to your number. This then begs the question: where does the operator get the details of a phone number?
According to MTN, the WhoDeyCall database, the location where details of phone numbers are stored, is built in partnership with Developed Services Inc. which it claims is the world’s largest and most trusted data and information owners.
Additional details pertaining to how user’s data are derived hasn’t been stated, however the yellow-branded telecom operator did pen down the procedures of making a change to the name you need displayed for other subscribers.
Changing your name as it appears in WhoDeyCall?
To modify, change or edit your name, text NAME followed by your name and surname to 5058 e.g. Name Tony Angel
